The Larry C. Tripplett Sr. Family Center at Ronald McDonald House Oakland is open for both overnight stays and day pass families. Both programs serve families with critically ill children being treated at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
Ronald McDonald House Oakland’s 21-bedroom House provides highly specialized no-cost housing and services for some of the hospital’s sickest and most medically vulnerable children.
Families of children receiving care at our partner hospitals are welcome to utilize Ronald McDonald House Bay Area programs and services during the day, including:
Many parents are unable or unwilling to venture more than a few steps away from their sick child. Existing barriers to food access in Oakland have only exacerbated food insecurity experienced by families with children at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
Our daily lunch and dinner service relieves some of the financial burden and stress our families have to bear. Every weekday, Feed the Love lunches and dinners are served to families in the hospital and at our Oakland House.
Camp Ronald McDonald House are FREE 10-week programs where children can be themselves in a fun, safe and supervised environment during school breaks. Campers participate in activities such as outdoor play, art and science projects, and more. Lunch and snacks are provided daily. Campers also take a chaperoned trip to a local activity or attraction. Children can participate in one day of camp or every day.
Who can participate?
Families at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, including siblings, often wait long hours or even days without leaving the hospital or their child’s bedside. Our Hospitality Cart moves throughout the hospital offering refreshments and snacks, toiletries, and age-appropriate toys to patients, siblings, and their families.
Our Family Support team is here to help families navigate their Ronald McDonald House stay and everything happening around it. Whether a family need practical resources, emotional support, help solving a problem, or simply someone to talk to, they do not have to figure it out alone.
Ronald McDonald House Bay Area partners with leading university schools of Social Work to train the next generation of family support professionals. Our Master of Social Work (MSW) students are supervised by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and work alongside experienced staff to provide compassionate, family-centered support while completing their professional education.
