When Erin and Parker welcomed their son Bodie into the world, they couldn’t have imagined the medical journey ahead. At just six weeks old, Bodie began bleeding uncontrollably after his umbilical stump fell off. After a long night in the NICU, doctors delivered devastating news: “We think he’s in liver failure.”
Bodie was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a rare and life-threatening liver condition. He underwent complex surgery at UC Davis, but it offered only a brief reprieve. By three months old, Bodie was placed on the liver transplant list at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.
During the long months of waiting, Ronald McDonald House at Stanford became the family’s lifeline. Erin and Parker found comfort in shared meals, understanding smiles, and the support of other families facing similar challenges.
With local hotels charging more than $200 a night, staying at RMHC Bay Area saved the family over $20,000, but for Erin, the real gift was community and compassion.

After seven long months on the transplant list, a life-changing call came. A family grieving the loss of their 15-year-old son, Sean, chose to give the gift of life through organ donation. Sean’s liver was a perfect match.
On July 18, Bodie received his transplant, and almost immediately, his numbers began to improve.
At the House, Bodie began to experience joy beyond the hospital walls. He played with therapy dogs “Furry Friends” that reminded the family of their pets waiting at home, and he celebrated his first birthday in Brad’s Park, surrounded by loved ones, laughter, and the “magic closet” of donated toys.

Today, Bodie continues his healing journey, and his family continues to call Ronald McDonald House Bay Area their home away from home. The House has provided stability in uncertainty, care during chaos, and most importantly, hope.
